Saturday, we all woke up early to head to the Apple Harvest Festival in "downtown" Waynesville. I use the term "downtown" loosely. I have always had an obsession for small cozy towns ever since I saw the first episode of 'Gilmore Girls'. I wished I could live in a town where I could step out my front door, walk to the local coffee shop, play in the leaves and wave hello to the local shop keepers. But, then I wake up and realize that would mean sacrificing jumping in my car on a whim and going to Target for that much needed bottle of nail polish and sour worms.
It is nice to dream every now and then.
Once arriving we were greeted by the aroma of pork chop sandwiches, turkey legs on the grill, chocolate covered funnel cakes and homemade potato chips. Personally I thought the meat selection looked rather unappealing, to say the least. But, my dad and Rey thought they looked fantastic and would of devoured a pork chop sandwich if they had not just ate breakfast. It must be a male thing because the only people I saw eating the two inch thick pork chops and carrying turkey legs around at 9 a.m. were individuals of the male variety.
There were tons of arts and crafts booths. Everything from paintings created by local artists to that perfect scarf for your Yorkie puppy. I picked up a handmade crocheted ghost hat for Landon which I'm sure will be making a guest appearance in the next coming week. Apple stands galore filled with juicy red, green, and yellow apples. Apple butter and apple pies.Cloggers and square dancers dancing to live music, and one of the best vintage candy shops you will find! I was able to score some old school gum balls. In theory I thought they were going to taste as good as I remembered from my childhood, but after chewing them for a solid minute my jaw became sore and the gum started to taste more like paste and not a delicious red cherry flavor. Clearly my taste buds as a child were lacking.
Since we resisted the "temptation" of the pork chops and turkey legs, we treated ourselves to some of the best cream horns, cannolis and cupcakes at the local bakery, Whitman's.
We ended the day with a frollick in the leaves and a photoshoot by the trees.
I love my life!

ReplyDeleteI liked your dream about living in a village and being familiar with everyone, but its not always the best case scenario, and yes you would have to ride your car to the nearest city to buy everything..
